Over the many years, the Greek Community has been a big part of the Wellington scene.  At the heart of the Greek Community is the Greek Orthodox Church, faith, language, history and it's rich culture, family, friends and celebrations.

OXI DAY - 28 OCTOBER

The day Greece said "NO"

Oxi Day - At 3am on 28 October 1940, Greek Prime Minister, Ioannis Metaxas, was given an ultimatum from Italy's Mussolini to surrender Greece to the Axis.  His answer was "OXI" (No) and Greece was thrown into War World II.  We remember and honour all heroes that gave their lives fighting for Greece's freedom in a battle that changed the course of the War....
