Hilton Petone: Olympic 2, Stop Out 1

The Wellington Olympic 1st team progressed into the quarter finals of the Hilton Petone with an unspectacular win against Stop-Out. A combination of factors meant that the result was obtained with much of the inconsistency of the previous week. An early goal, well taken by Joe Lupi was just reward for once again dominating the opposition early but from that point the energy and enthusiasm seemed to go from the team. With a Geoff Brown penalty completing the scoring for Wellington Olympic in the 1st half, this lack of focus allowed Stop-Out to score with only two minutes to go in the first half to ensure the game was still up for grabs. The second half saw the team pick up the pace of the game with opportunities falling to Geoff Brown, Joe Lupi, Scott James and Karl Whalen, we continued to dominate hitting the post twice and the bar once late in the game. Once again the half was dominated by Wellington Olympic, but our lack of energy and enthusiasm continued and the game stuttered to its final conclusion. Not an ideal game by any means but the win puts the club into the quarter finals and we look to improve next week in our final pool game against reigning National League Champions Miramar Rangers. Team: Dave Finley / Mike Stobba / Barry Lewis / Sam Higgins / Benn Dawson / Darren Cheriton (c) / Steve Romijn / Karl Whalen / Scott James / Joe Lupi / Geoff Brown.
